Ahrefs has invested $60 million of resources into a new, creator-friendly search engine – which has been built from the ground up.
Their new search engine is called ‘Yep’ and pays a 90% profit share to content creators.
What is Yep?
Yep is the brainchild of Dmytro Gerasimenko, and was developed by the Ahrefs team. Yep is a search engine that shares advertising profits with it creators and protects it’s users’ privacy.
Ahrefs is an online toolset for SEO professionals, used to used to audit and optimise websites, analyse competitors, find and track keywords for your own website, competitors, and your industry, and much more.
Yep’s 90/10 Profit Share
With Yep, Ahrefs aims to go ‘back to the basics: supporting good content’ – with this in mind, the new platform will pay content creators for high-quality content, on a 90/10 profit share business model. In which 90% of advertising profits go directly to content creators.
The Yep profit share model rewards independent journalists, experts and passionate individuals for their work and pushes for high-quality content for search results.
It’s clear that more and more of the content we see online is hidden behind a paywall of some sort, be that Ads before a YouTube video, or a paywall on a news publication.

How does Yep work?
Running on its own search index, Yep does not use or rely on other APIs, such as those from Google, Bing or other search engines.
Yep is using Ahrefs servers and data centres. With over 1,000 servers and over 100 petabytes of data (that’s 1000 TB) – Yep utilises the power of the Ahrefs crawler, AhrefsBot.
Ahrefs has been crawling the web since 2010, and has been storing, indexing and structuring petabytes of data. AhrefsBot crawls over 8 billion web pages every 24 hours, and is available in most countries and languages.
